Writing Prompt:
Why did the U.S. Government pass the Indian Removal Act? Were they trying to protect the Native Americans, or were they just trying to get them out of the way? What else could have been done to help the natives? Be sure to address the prompt in entirety.

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

The U.S. Government passed the Indian Removal Act to give to the southern states the land that belonged to the Native Americans. They created it under the guise to the Natives that they were going to protect them and bring them to a safe place of their own, but really they wanted them out of the way permanently. This is evident by the fact that Americans attempted genocide on the natives since they settled in the Americas. The natives could have been thoroughly helped by perhaps a pact to share the land equally, could have been compensated for the land taken or they could have simply left them be and continued conquests elsewhere.
