Which of these sentences uses sensory details to create setting? 1. We lived in a big house with four bedrooms and a kitchen I didn't like at all. 2. We lived in a cozy little brick house surrounded by the smell of pig farms. 3. We lived in a neighborhood full of homes without other children. 4. We lived in North Dakota most of my childhood--then moved to California.

Answers

Answer:

2. We lived in a cozy little brick house surrounded by the smell of pig farms.

Explanation:

Sensory details refer to the details that employ or involve the five senses- the sense of smell, taste, touch, sight, and sound in giving the descriptive detail of something. So, any settings or detail given that involves these five sources are called to be sensory details.

The sentence that uses one of these sensory details to create a setting is the second sentence. In the second sentence, the setting is created with the help of the sense of smell, when the speaker mentioned "cozy little brick house surrounded by the smell of pig farms".

Thus, the correct answer is option 2.

The Tailed Ones

Once before the dawn of morning, a woman walked through the forest. As she was walking, she came upon a large nest. The nest held two large eggs.  The nest was old, and the eggs were cold. The woman wrapped some furs around the egg to keep them warm. The woman left the eggs to find food. When she returned, the eggs had started to crack. The woman watched as a figure emerged from both eggs. From the first egg emerged a large animal with gray shaggy fur, large ears, and a bushy tail, the woman named this one Canis Dirus. The second animal was smaller and slimmer, with gold hair and black spots. The woman called this animal Pseudaelurus. They were considered the first known mammal species of their kind.

Both animals looked up at the woman and thought of her as their mother.  She took them to her home, where she would take care of them. The animals were loyal and willing to serve, so the woman gave them the title of pets. However, The pets didn't like each other. The Pseudaelurus did not like the Canis Dirus because of it's loud nature and energetic character. The Canis Dirus had a very dominant personality, marking its territory and growling at intruders. At the same time, the Canis Dirus did not like the Pseudaelurus because of its sneaky and lazy actions. She was always sleeping and stealing food from the Canis Dirus when he had finished hunting.

As the animals grew, their dislike for each other grew. They fought many hours of the day when the woman was not around. They fought over everything, from food to sleeping areas, to hunting grounds. One particular day, the Canis Dirus brought some meat for the woman and left it at her door to show his appreciation for her. The Pseudaelurus came by and ate the meat. His actions angered the Canis Dirus, so he destroyed her den. They started a great brawl that continued for many hours. The fight was so great that they did not hear the woman who was calling for them. She needed their help desperately, for a flock of great birds were attacking her. She called for them, begging them to come and help her. Finally, the largest bird seized the woman and flew away with her, the other following suit.

When the animals finished their fight, they returned home to clean their wounds. They arrived home to find their woman missing and feathers surrounding her house. The Canis Dirus turned to blame Pseudaelurus, for if she hadn't stolen from him, then the woman wouldn't be missing. The Pseudaelurus blamed the Canis Dirus for being too territorial instead of generous. The argument caused yet, another fight, which contained even more destruction than before. The animals didn't stop until both were too damaged to continue. Once they had the chance to view their surroundings, they saw how much destruction had occurred. They realized that their fighting had been the cause of this and decided to make a pact. They would try to get along to stop any harm from happening to anything or anyone else. The Canis Dirus had many descendants that are now known as dogs, while the Pseudaelurus had descendants now known as cats. They come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and patterns. To this day, some cats and dogs still dislike each other. Others can live in the same house and be perfectly fine. They are now known as housepets and are very nice additions for families.

The voyage was an ordeal, but it was worth it. They were on their way to America. Edward Corsi, [ . . .] was a ten-year-old Italian immigrant when he sailed into New York harbor in 1907: "My mother, my stepfather, my brother Giuseppe, and my two sisters, Liberta and Helvetia, all of us together, happy that we had come through the storm safely, clustered on the foredeck for fear of separation and looked with wonder on this miraculous land of our dreams."

Answers

Hello. This question is incomplete. The full question is:

Read Edward Corsi's quotation from the book Immigrant Kids by Russell Freedman.

How does this quotation add credibility to Freedman's line that the voyage was an ordeal, but it was worth it?

Answer:

The quote comes from someone who, in addition to being an immigrant, was an immigration commissioner, which shows that Corsi knew what he was talking about, which is why his words add credibility to the article.

Explanation:

A reliable source is one that has been produced by an expert who knows the subject very well. In the case of the text shown above, the quote by Edward Corsi is very relevant and adds credibility to the text. That's because Corsi, in addition to being an immigrant, is an immigration commissioner, which gives him vast knowledge of the trials that immigrants had to endure during their tragedies. That makes Corsi an expert.

Answer:

The quote comes from someone who, in addition to being an immigrant, was an immigration commissioner, which shows that Corsi knew what he was talking about, which is why his words add credibility to the article.

11. Why is the water in wetlands filtered more thoroughly than water in a stream?

Answers

As water from a stream channel or surface runoff enters a wetland, the water spreads out and flows through dense vegetation. The velocity of the flow is reduced, allowing suspended material in the water to settle to the wetland surface. The roots of wetland plants can then bind the accumulated sediments. As much as 90 percent of the sediments that are present in runoff or in streamflow may be removed if the water passes through wetlands. Also, because pollutants, such as heavy metals, are attached to soil particles, the settling of sediments in wetlands further improves water quality.
