Read the passage. excerpt from Federalist No. 78 by Alexander Hamilton In 1787 and 1788, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, and James Madison wrote the Federalist Papers to persuade voters to ratify the proposed Constitution of the United States of America. These papers included essays about all three branches of government: executive, legislative, and judicial. In Federalist No. 78, Hamilton focused specifically on the judicial branch. Whoever attentively considers the different departments of power must perceive, that, in a government in which they are separated from each other, the judiciary, from the nature of its functions, will always be the least dangerous to the political rights of the Constitution; because it will be least in a capacity to annoy or injure them. The Executive not only dispenses the honors, but holds the sword of the community. The legislature not only commands the purse, but prescribes the rules by which the duties and rights of every citizen are to be regulated. The judiciary, on the contrary, has no influence over either the sword or the purse; no direction either of the strength or of the wealth of the society; and can take no active resolution whatever. It may truly be said to have neither FORCE nor WILL, but merely judgment; and must ultimately depend upon the aid of the executive arm even for the efficacy of its judgments. This simple view of the matter suggests several important consequences. It proves incontestably, that the judiciary is beyond comparison the weakest of the three departments of power; that it can never attack with success either of the other two; and that all possible care is requisite to enable it to defend itself against their attacks. It equally proves, that though individual oppression may now and then proceed from the courts of justice, the general liberty of the people can never be endangered from that quarter; I mean so long as the judiciary remains truly distinct from both the legislature and the Executive. For I agree, that "there is no liberty, if the power of judging be not separated from the legislative and executive powers.'' And it proves, in the last place, that as liberty can have nothing to fear from the judiciary alone, but would have every thing to fear from its union with either of the other departments; that as all the effects of such a union must ensue from a dependence of the former on the latter, notwithstanding a nominal and apparent separation; that as, from the natural feebleness of the judiciary, it is in continual jeopardy of being overpowered, awed, or influenced by its co-ordinate branches; and that as nothing can contribute so much to its firmness and independence as permanency in office, this quality may therefore be justly regarded as an indispensable ingredient in its constitution, and, in a great measure, as the citadel of the public justice and the public security. The complete independence of the courts of justice is peculiarly essential in a limited Constitution. By a limited Constitution, I understand one which contains certain specified exceptions to the legislative authority; such, for instance, as that it shall pass no bills of attainder, no ex-post-facto laws, and the like. Limitations of this kind can be preserved in practice no other way than through the medium of courts of justice, whose duty it must be to declare all acts contrary to the manifest tenor of the Constitution void. Without this, all the reservations of particular rights or privileges would amount to nothing. How does Hamilton support and advance his purpose in Paragraph 2 by using the word feebleness in this excerpt? . . . that as, from the natural feebleness of the judiciary, it is in continual jeopardy of being overpowered, awed, or influenced by its co-ordinate branches . . . This word allows Hamilton to stress the idea that the judiciary plays a naturally passive role in the government—reacting to the other branches—so its independence must be guaranteed. The word lets Hamilton suggest that the efforts of the judiciary are mostly ineffective, so it should not be linked to any other branches lest it negatively influence them. The word conveys Hamilton's belief that the judiciary's function will be irrelevant unless it is allowed to exist under the strong and guiding power of the other branches of government. The word captures Hamilton's view that the judiciary is of questionable value, so it ought to be granted complete independence so it can prove its worth to the government.

Also, I discovered that the children were spoken to as full members. The use of gentle guidance has proven effective than the use of reprimands. I have the thought that children do not usually have an understanding of the feelings they are expressing and may not know how to express it in order to be understood which is very important for us to note and always remember.

Repetition is a technique that many poets use to great effect. Some of the reasons poets use repetition are to enhance the lyricism of the poem, to create cohesion within the poem, and to reinforce the meaning of the poem. Two specific types of repetition used in poetry are a refrain and anaphora. A refrain repeats words between stanzas; anaphora repeats the same words at the beginning of subsequent sentences or clauses. In Alfred, Lord Tennyson's poem "The Charge of the Light Brigade," he uses both types of repetition to create the three effects noted.

In stanza 1, the words "half a league" are repeated three times in succession. This is a type of anaphora. This repeating phrase increases the lyricism of the poem, that is, it makes an appealing sound to our ears. Because the phrase has a special rhythm, called dactylic, it is especially pleasing. This same rhythm is repeated in each stanza, lending cohesion to the poem, helping it hold together as a unit. The dactylic rhythm gives the feeling of riding horseback, and that reinforces the meaning of the poem. To repeat "half a league" three times helps the reader get the feeling of being a cavalryman on horseback getting closer and closer to to desired destination.

In stanza 3, the words "cannon to right of them, / Cannon to left of them, / Cannon in front of them" are mirrored by the similar but slightly different words at the beginning of stanza 5: "cannon to right of them, / Cannon to left of them, / Cannon behind them." Again, this is anaphora. The dactylic rhythm and anaphora continue to be pleasing to the ear while connecting the stanzas to each other. Here the repetition reinforces the meaning of being surrounded by the Russian artillery that bordered three sides of the field the brigade was charging across. The repetition makes readers feel as if they are in the middle of the battle, too. Imagine just saying, "They were surrounded on three sides while charging down the hill." That conveys the meaning, but not the feeling, of being in the battle. The use of repetition allows the reader to enter into the scene emotionally and with the five senses.

The anaphora at the beginning of several stanzas balances out with the refrain at the end of each stanza that refers to the "six hundred" in one way or another. This again enhances the lyric quality of the poem while tying the stanzas and the entire poem together. Thus repetition is a key technique Tennyson uses to immortalize a battle that otherwise may have been lost in the pages of history.

The effect that the repetition of the last 2 lines has on the overall poem is that the repetition places particular emphasis on these lines and thus suggests a deeper interpretation than simple rest. Thus, the correct option for this question is A.

What is the significance of repetition in literature?

The significance of repetition is determined by the fact that it is a favored tool among orators because it can help to emphasize a point and make a speech easier to follow.

Apart from this, it also typically adds to the powers of persuasion—studies show that repetition of a phrase can convince people of its truth. Writers and speakers also use repetition to give words rhythm.

When a writer utilizes repetition, they're putting multiple iterations of a word or phrase in close proximity to each other. In other words, a word or phrase is repeated to provide clarity and emphasis, highlighting deeper meanings in the text.

Therefore, the correct option for this question is A.

Read the following quote and write a reflection in which you connect it to one or more of the characters in the novel. “If you meet a loner, no matter what they tell you, it’s not because they enjoy solitude. It’s because they have tried to blend into the world before, and people continue to disappoint them.”― Jodi Picoult, My Sister's Keeper

Answers

Answer and Explanation:

The quote shown above reflects on how people position themselves in the way their peers behave in relation to it. In a simpler form, the quote indicates that if a person feels devalued by his peers, he will tend to isolate himself and distance himself from them, as a way of self-protection and conservation of his well-being.

In the novel "My sister's keeper" we can relate this concept to both Kate and Anna Fitzgerald. That's because, Kate feels that her life is tiring for her family, especially for her sister; in that case, as a form of protection, she wishes to die. Anna, on the other hand, feels that her family uses her for interests that are not hers and therefore, as a form of protection, she wants to separate from the family.

this central idea, citing specific evidence from the text and exploring how Douglass
makes connections between key events and the central idea in your response.

Answer:

In the Narrative, Douglass shows slaveholding to be damaging not only to the slaves themselves, but to slave owners as well. The corrupt and irresponsible power that slave owners enjoy over their slaves has a detrimental effect on the slave owners' own moral health.

Explanation:

He thinks that if he were an animal, he wouldn’t have the ability to think and worry about his circumstances. Now that he can read, Douglass is tormented by his constant thoughts about his life as a slave and the impossibility of freedom. He regards slaveholders as “a band of successful robbers” and as “the meanest as well as the most wicked of men. Douglass’s purpose is to express his thoughts and feelings about being enslaved and about the effects of literacy. He relates three events that help him achieve his goal: his mistress teaching him to read, his further pursuit of instruction from “all the little white boys,” and the acquisition of certain reading materials that encouraged his own thoughts and feelings about slavery.

Which sentence from this excerpt reflects a compare-and-contrast text structure? Pietro and Rosa Sicurella lived with their nine children in Adrano, Sicily prior to coming to the United States. When Giuseppe died in 1916, the Sicurella siblings living in New York decided not to return to Sicily--the rest of the family joined them after World War I. The Sicurella family typified the kinds of professions many Italian immigrants undertook once they came to America in the early 1900s. Giuseppe D'Amico, Concetta Sicurella's husband, immigrated with his wife's family, leaving his own family behind in Sicily.

Answers

Answer:

When Giuseppe died in 1916, the Sicurella siblings living in New York decided not to return to Sicily--the rest of the family joined them after World War I.

Explanation:

A compare-and-contrast text structure is one that literally compares two different situations in the same text, showing two situations that when involved in the same context show strands the same or different from each other.

An example of this type of structure can be seen in the option "When Giuseppe died in 1916, the Sicurella siblings living in New York decided not to return to Sicily - the rest of the family joined them after World War I," where it compares the decision Sicurella's family about where to go after Giuseppe died. This option shows that one part of the family decided not to return to Sicily, while the other part decided to join them only when the war was over.
