Answer 1

Answer: To your project!!

Experiment Half-Life

a. My hypothesis is that when we get through 6 half-life’s you will be left with no atoms, and each time the atom number will decrease. Half of my hypothesis was correct whilst the numbers did decrease we, after 6 trials were left with one undecayed atom.

b.what is a half life?

the time required for the decay of one-half of the atoms in a sample of radioactive material

c. When does a radioactive sample emit the largest number of decay particles? when it first starts to decay

Why is this information important? Half-Life and decay is important today because it helps us determine the date of death and birth of ancient mummies.

d. Do you think the shape of the curve on your graph would change if you increased the half-life to 20 seconds? Yes different data would arise and that would change the graph.

What does this reveal about radioactive decay? The longer a material or substance takes to decay the larger the amount of decayed material or substance will come from the substance

e. Do you think the shape of the curve on your graph would change if you started with a smaller sample, say 50 atoms (pennies)? Yes, again different data would arise and that would change the graph.

What does this reveal about radioactive decay? The smaller the sample the quicker it will decay. And the less product that comes from the sample.

A laboratory bottle of helium gas occupies a volume of 2.0 L at 760 mm Hg. Calculate the new pressure if the
volume falls to 1.8 L.

Answers

Answer:

844.4 mmHg

Explanation:

The new pressure can be found by using the formula for Boyle's law which is

[tex]P_1V_1 = P_2V_2[/tex]

Since we are finding the new pressure

[tex]P_2 = \frac{P_1V_1}{V_2} \\[/tex]

From the question we have

[tex]P_2 = \frac{2 \times 760}{1.8} = \frac{1520}{1.8} \\ = 844.4444...[/tex]

We have the final answer as

844.4 mmHg

Why is there no reaction between solid silver and copper (II) nitrate

Answers

ANSWER:_____________________________________Why is there no reaction between silver and copper (II) nitrate?

For the reaction to occur, it is necessary that the metal which replaces the metal from the compound LIES above that metal in the ELECTROCHEMICAL SERIES(ECS). The metal in the compound here is Copper (II) nitrate where as the metal trying to displace is silver. Silver lies below the copper in a ECS, that means Copper is more reactive than silver. The reaction is not possible because more reactive metal displaces less reactive metal from its compound, and silver is LESS reactive than copper so it cant displace the copper from copper nitrate.

If 9.8g water is used in electrolysis, what is the percent yield if 5.6g of oxygen was
collected after the experiment?
H20 --> H2 + O2

Answers

Answer:

Approximately [tex]64\%[/tex].

Explanation:

[tex]\displaystyle \text{Percentage Yield} = \frac{\text{Actual Yield}}{\text{Theoretical Yield}} \times 100\%[/tex]

The actual yield of [tex]\rm O_2[/tex] was given. The theoretical yield needs to be calculated from the quantity of the reactant.

Balance the equation for the hydrolysis of water:

[tex]\rm 2\, H_2O \, (l) \to 2\, H_2\, (g) + O_2\, (g)[/tex].

Note the ratio between the coefficient of [tex]\rm H_2O\, (g)[/tex] and [tex]\rm O_2\, (g)[/tex]:

[tex]\displaystyle \frac{n(\mathrm{O_2\, (g)})}{n(\mathrm{H_2O\, (aq)})} = \frac{1}{2}[/tex].

This ratio will be useful for finding the theoretical yield of [tex]\rm O_2\, (g)[/tex].

Look up the relative atomic mass of hydrogen and oxygen on a modern periodic table.

[tex]\rm H[/tex]: [tex]1.008[/tex].[tex]\rm O[/tex]: [tex]15.999[/tex].

Calculate the formula mass of [tex]\rm H_2O[/tex] and [tex]\rm O_2[/tex]:

[tex]M(\mathrm{H_2O}) =2\times 1.008 + 15.999 = 18.015\; \rm g \cdot mol^{-1}[/tex].

[tex]M(\mathrm{O_2}) =2\times 15.999 = 31.998\; \rm g \cdot mol^{-1}[/tex].

Calculate the number of moles of molecules in [tex]9.8\; \rm g[/tex] of [tex]\rm H_2O[/tex]:

[tex]\displaystyle n(\mathrm{H_2O}) = \frac{m(\mathrm{H_2O})}{M(\mathrm{H_2O})} = \frac{9.8\; \rm g}{18.015\; \rm g \cdot mol^{-1}} \approx 0.543991\;\rm g \cdot mol^{-1}[/tex].

Make use of the ratio [tex]\displaystyle \frac{n(\mathrm{O_2\, (g)})}{n(\mathrm{H_2O\, (aq)})} = \frac{1}{2}[/tex] to find the theoretical yield of [tex]\rm O_2[/tex] (in terms of number of moles of molecules.)

[tex]\begin{aligned} n(\mathrm{O_2}) &= \displaystyle \frac{n(\mathrm{O_2\, (g)})}{n(\mathrm{H_2O\, (aq)})} \cdot n(\mathrm{H_2O}) \\ &\approx \frac{1}{2} \times 0.543991\; \rm mol \approx 0.271996\; \rm mol \end{aligned}[/tex].

Calculate the mass of that approximately [tex]0.271996\; \rm mol[/tex] of [tex]\rm O_2[/tex] (theoretical yield.)

[tex]\begin{aligned}m(\mathrm{O_2}) &= n(\mathrm{O_2}) \cdot M(\mathrm{O_2}) \\ &\approx 0.271996\; \rm mol \times 31.998\; \rm g \cdot mol^{-1} \approx 8.70331 \; \rm g \end{aligned}[/tex].

That would correspond to the theoretical yield of [tex]\rm O_2[/tex] (in term of the mass of the product.)

Given that the actual yield is [tex]5.6\; \rm g[/tex], calculate the percentage yield:

[tex]\begin{aligned}\text{Percentage Yield} &= \frac{\text{Actual Yield}}{\text{Theoretical Yield}} \times 100\% \\ &\approx \frac{5.6\; \rm g}{8.70331\; \rm g} \times 100\% \approx 64\%\end{aligned}[/tex].

Answers

Answer:

1 g

Explanation:

Given data:

Volume of solution = 250 mL (250 mL × 1 L/1000 mL = 0.25 L)

Molarity of solution = 0.1 M

Amount of sodium hydroxide = ?

Solution:

Molarity = number of moles / volume in L

0.1 M = number of moles /0.25 L

Number of moles = 0.1 M × 0.25 L

            M = mol/ L

Number of moles = 0.025 mol

B) 4.00 g
C) 0.04 g
D) 0 049 g
And why

Answers

Answer:

The answer options provided are incorrect. The correct answer is 0.009g

Explanation:

Using PV = nRT

Where;

P = pressure (atm)

V = volume (L)

R = gas constant (0.0821 Latm/Kmol)

T = temperature (K)

n = number of moles

Based in the information provided;

V = 107mL = 107/1000 = 0.107L

P = 104.8kPa = 104800 Pa = 1.03atm

T = 30°C + 273.15 = 303.15K

PV = nRT

1.03 × 0.107 = n × 0.0821 × 303.15

0.1102 = 24.89n

n = 0.1102/24.89

n = 0.0044 mol

mole = mass/molar mass

Molar mass of H2 = 2g/mol

mass = molar mass × mole

mass = 2 × 0.0044

mass = 0.0088

mass = 0.009g

To a great extent, the art of writing thank-you notes has surrendered to impersonal forms of technology. However, the effect of a handwritten note simply cannot be duplicated by a tactless e-mail or a hurried phone call. A written thank-you note shows the care and the effort put forth by the writer because a note requires thought as well as time. Writing a note demonstrates that the gift recipient appreciates the giver's thoughtfulness. In contrast, an e-mail or a phone call may be more convenient for the gift recipient, but these methods do not show the same level of consideration and appreciation as a thank-you note. Both methods lack the attention that a giftno matter its sizeproperly deserves.
