Identify at least three external conflicts in the play. Then describe the internal conflict that Proctor faces. How could Proctor's conflict relate to a broader conflict in the play—between public appearance and private reality? Explain your answers using specific examples from the play.

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

Three external conflicts in The Crucible play are:

Conflict between Elizabeth Proctor and Abigail WilliamsConflict between of John Proctor, Giles Corey, Francis Nurse against their community and the corrupt court system.Reverend Hale's conflict about supporting the corrupt church or helping the falsely accused citizens.John Proctor faces an internal conflict of whether to preserve his reputation or expose Abigail as a liar by exposing his own infidelity.

Explanation:

The conflict between Elizabeth Proctor and Abigail Williams comes about when Abigail falsely accuses Elizabeth of witchcraft. Abigail has an affair and is in love with Elizabeth's husband, John Proctor, and is angry when Elizabeth sacks her from working in their home. She falsely accuses Elizabeth of witchcraft out of vengeance and jealousy. Abigail wants Elizabeth to die so that John Proctor can be hers alone.John Proctor, Giles Corey and Francis Nurse try to fight their community and the corrupt Salem court about the injustice being carried out in the witch trials. The three of them went to Salem in an attempt to expose Abigail and the other girls who confessed as liars. Francis Nurse makes a petition which is signed by ninety one people saying that Elizabeth Proctor, Rebecca Nurse, and Martha Corey have good characters. John Proctor goes so far as to confess to his adultery in hopes of exposing Abigail and breaking her hold over the court and the town, while Giles Corey produces a deposition accusing Thomas Putnam of using the witch trials for his own ulterior motives. The three men struggle against to prove that the accused citizens are innocent and the witch trials are nothing but a fraud. Reverend Hale struggles with the decision to support the corrupt court or help the falsely accused citizens of the town. Reverend Hale ends up quitting the court and attempts to convince the falsely accused citizens to agree to a confession in order to be allowed to live.

John Proctor faces an internal conflict of whether to save his reputation or expose Abigail as a liar by exposing his own infidelity. He struggles internally with the decision of saving his reputation or challenging the corrupt court to end the witch trials.  After his affair with Abigail Williams John Proctor admits that he "has come to regard himself as a kind of fraud." Outwardly he appears to be an upstanding Christian, farmer, and citizen, but inwardly he knows that he has broken some of the most fundamental rules of Christian doctrine injunctions against lying and adultery. He tells his wife, "Let you look sometimes for the goodness in me, and judge me not." And she replies, "The magistrate sits in your heart that judges you."  It is clear that she is right, when John has decided not to confess to a crime he did not commit in order to save his life in the final act, he says, "You have made your magic now, for now I do think I see some shred of goodness in John Proctor." In the end, he finally regained sight of his value and goodness which he lost along the way in his inner struggles.

How would you convince your teacher to change your grade using pathos

Answers

Answer:

By appealing to their emotions.

Explanation:

Pathos is a term first introduced by Aristotle, who is often referred to as the father of rhetoric. It's also called the appeal to emotion and refers to using arguments to draw out certain emotions in the audience and through them get them to change their point of view.

If you wanted to convince your teacher to change your grade using pathos, you would have to tell a story that would make them feel compassion. For example, you could tell that you were ill and didn't feel well enough to study, ask them for another chance, and similar.

The middle hieroglyph was unknown to him, but he guessed that the two at the left symbolized the sun.

From his studies of Coptic, Champollion knew that the Egyptian word for "sun" was pronounced rah. He wrote down the first two letters of that sound, RA. Next he put a question mark for the unknown middle hieroglyph. Then, at the end, he wrote SS, the sound of the last two hieroglyphs.

He studied the combination: RA ? SS. Suddenly he remembered a famous pharaoh whose name appeared in ancient Greek chronicles and also in the Biblical Book of Exodus: Rameses, or Ramesses. Could this be a hieroglyphic representation of Ramesses' name?

The details in the excerpt point to which big-picture idea?

Hieroglyphs are both a representation of sounds and symbols.
Several famous names can be found in the Biblical Book of Exodus.
The sun has symbolic meaning in many different cultures.
Champollion knew that the Egyptian word for “sun” was pronounced rah.

Definitely A. Hieroglyphs are both a representation of sounds and symbols.

Answer:

The answer is A. Hieroglyphs are both a representation of sounds and symbols.

Explanation:

Although many people think of Egyptian hieroglyphs as logographic or pictographic, it actually combines symbols for entire words with symbols for individual sounds. That is, it is a system that is partly logographic and partly alphabetic. It can be called logophonetic. Egyptian symbols can represent individual sounds.

To what extent is Lin Manuel Miranda’s portrayal of the relationship between Alexander Hamilton and Angelica schuyler accurate?

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

Part of what Lin Manuel Miranda wrote in the musical Hamilton is imagined and part is true.

The parts he exaggerated are:

In a part of the song Satisfied where Angelica tells how she wants Hamilton despite him not being rich ("And Alexander is penniless / Ha! That doesn’t mean I want him any less"), she sings “I’m a girl in a world in which / My only job is to marry rich / My father has no sons so I’m the one / Who has to social climb for one)”. This part is not true, as her father had two sons. Angelica was already married and had children at the time of the initial meeting with Alexandar. These are not circumstances in the musical shows. Angelica didn’t probably introduce her sister Eliza to Hamilton. The historical evidence said that the pair likely knew each other from before.

However, the true parts are:

Angelica likely had a small crush on her brother in law. In one of the letters, she wrote to Eliza: “If you were as generous as the old Romans, you would lend him to me for a little while,” a line that was partly used in the musical. Angelica wrote to Hamilton as to her “dear and naughty Brother” in one of the letters. Hamilton probably returned these affections. In one of the letters, he wrote to Angelica “I seldom write to a lady without fancying the relation of lover and mistress.” He also frequently returned her compliments.Hamilton and Angelica had a close and affectionate relationship, even flirting a bit. This is also seen through their letters in which they describe their affection, missing each other. Their conversations are witty and flirtatious. Historians explain this kind of communication was possible exactly because they were both married. They were likely friends joking with each other, but it would be scandalous if the public saw this type of relationship between man and woman if they were single and not in their separate relationships.

Therefore, we can conclude that Miranda did exaggerate the circumstances of Angelica’s and Hamilton’s relationship, but he did not invent the attraction and affection between them.

Read the negative position from "Animal Rights Debate."

It is clear that humans are superior to animals, and therefore animals should not have the same rights as human beings. The Greek philosopher Aristotle argued that only humans have the ability to reason. Animals only have instincts to guide them. Therefore, they are not sentient, or thinking, beings like humans are. In addition, humans show their superiority to animals through control. Humans have superior abilities that allow them to raise animals for a variety of uses. Human beings are in control of animal life, making animal rights unnecessary.

Which statement best uses the ideas of the negative position to provide an affirmative rebuttal?

Animals can show humanlike traits, such as cooperation and the use of tools.

The purpose of animals is to be either consumed or used, regardless of whether they can reason with others.

Even though humans can communicate their reasoning better

Answers

Answer:

Even though humans can communicate their reasoning better than animals, animals like chimpanzees have shown that they reflect on their own thoughts.

Explanation:

A rebuttal is a way of contesting an earlier statement, showing facts that prove that the previous statement is not correct, but has inconsistencies and therefore cannot be considered.

An example of this can be seen in the question that presents a text that states that animals do not need rights, since they are not able to reason and reflect. In this case, it is possible to refute this claim by claiming that even though humans can communicate their reasoning better than animals, animals like chimpanzees have shown that they reflect on their own thoughts.

C: have you ever walk on green street .D: spiking along the of the road

Answers

Answer:

A : more accidents have not already occur

Explanation:

The narrator tells of what a terrible experience it is for children who have to walk along the road with cars speeding by at an alarming rate. He mentioned that it was a thing of luck that more accidents have not already occurred.

Sidewalks are meant to be a safer route for passersby. Since the students are at the mercy of cars speeding along in Green Street, that would only mean that there is an absence of sidewalks to protect them.

Answer: D

Explanation: skipping along the shoulder of the road

Earlier this week we identified a central theme in The Giver, that - painful memories of the past are important to hold onto because they bring wisdom to the present. How does the information on pages 139-141 support this theme? Use two pieces of evidence from the text in your AEZEZC response. *

Answers

Answer:

Pages 139-141 show the giver telling a painful story about a woman he loved and who was selected as a receiver of memories. Although the romance did not end happily, it gave the giver the memory of someone special and gave him more experience in helping his next friends, who would also be selected as recipients of memories.

Explanation:

"The giver" is a dystopia where young people are selected to keep the memories of humanity, especially the memories of pain and suffering, which the population does not want to have. Although this society seems to be utopian, it proves to be dystopian, since it removes the experiences of humanity, forcing them to live in sameness and causes suffering for the people who will keep these memories and carry the "weight" of the world on their backs.

Which text evidence best supports the authors' claim? "A plantation was not a new technology but, rather, a new way of organizing planting, growing, cutting, and refining a crop." In Selection 1, the author includes a claim that the wild horses have Spanish origins. Which statement best delineates the claim? Most evidence suggests that the horses are in fact a native species, supporting the argument that the horses must have actually been in North America for more than 11,000 years. The horses' Spanish orgins have been verified by DNA analysis, and this common ancestry helps support the argument that there is now a serious problem of inbreeding in the horse population. Although the horses' orgins are not actually certain, the claim supports the argument that the horses have been wild on the barrier island for a very long time and should be treated as a native species. There is no evidence to suggest that the horses are actually from Spain, which supports the argument that the horses are recent additions to the island and their range should be limited to protect endangered species.

This question is about the article "Wild Horses as Native North American Wildlife"

Answer:

Most evidence suggests that the horses are in fact a native species, supporting the argument that the horses must have actually been in North America for more than 11,000 years.

Explanation:

According to the article, wild horses of Spanish origin were taken to North America with Columbus and his entourage. They deposited these horses in Mexico, on Colombus' second voyage to the continent in 1493. The horses that were brought in at that time were E. caballus, which from where Mexico is today, began to spread across the Great Planices, intermingling in territory of the USA and giving rise to the native species we know today.

In “Lamb to the Slaughter” Dahl conveys dramatic irony through Mary’s dialogue when she speaks with the detectives. Dramatic irony is when the reader knows something that at least one of the characters doesn’t know. This can be shown when Mary offers the detectives dinner. “It’d be a favor to me if you’d eat it up” Mary knows the lamb is the murder weapon. Dahl’s readers also know the lamb is the murder weapon. Detective Noonan is clueless of this and doesn’t realize the lamb is the murder weapon. The detectives eat the lamb unaware of this. “Personally, I think it’s right here under our noses.”

How is each idea developed and explained? What details support each one? In your answer, be sure to • identify three central ideas presented about the rivalry • explain how the text develops and explains these ideas • use details from the article in your answer

Answers

Answer:

The Bone Wars is an episode in the history of paleontology that led to the discovery of some of the most famous dinosaurs.

Explanation:

The rivalry between Cope and Marsh was what led them to commit illicit acts and even destroy several dinosaur bones in order to "destroy" each other.

They began to collect fossil bones, and hidden from Cope, Marsh had paid for the bones to easily reach him.

Although both were great scientists, instead of working together they attacked each other in a public way.

However, this enmity helped to discover large species such as Diplodocus or Anisonchus Copehater.

Finally, the one who "won the war" was Marsh, who found 80 new species of dinosaur, while Cope found 56.
