Floating Entertainment
During the mid-19th century, before television or movies existed, people enjoyed forms of entertainment that are no longer common today.
For example, people who lived in areas along the Mississippi River that were far from large cities depended on showboats. Showboats were boats
on which plays were performed
An actor named William Chapman was the first person to build a showboat. He called his showboat the "Floating Theater." Actors lived on
the boat and traveled along the river. The showboat stopped at small towns to perform plays.
Showboats were very popular but were discontinued when the Civil War began in 1861. They became popular again in the late 1870s.
However, by the early 1900s, many settlements along the Mississippi had grown into larger towns with dance halls and movie theaters. As a result,
Mississippi showboats began to lose their appeal. By 1910, people were heading to movie theaters big time.

Victor draws one side of equilateral APQR on the coordinate plane at points P(-9, -2) and Q (-2,-2). What are the two possible coordinates of vertex R? Round to the nearest tenth.
Answer:
The possible coordinates for R are contained in the following expression:
[tex]R(x,y) = (-5.5, -2\pm 6.1)[/tex]
Explanation:
From statement we notice that line segment PQ is parallel to x-axis and by Geometry we know that an equilateral triangles have three side with equal length and three angles of 60°. In consequence, the height of the triangle is parallel to the y-axis and the possible coordinates for point R are contained in this equation:
[tex]R(x,y) = (x_{M,PQ}, y_{M,PQ} \pm l_{PQ}\cdot \sin 60^{\circ})[/tex] (1)
Where:
[tex]x_{M, PQ}[/tex], [tex]y_{M,PQ}[/tex] - Coordinates of the midpoint of the line segment PQ.
[tex]l_{PQ}[/tex] - Side length of the line segment PQ.
The length of the line segment PQ is determined by the Pythagorean Theorem:
[tex]l_{PQ} = \sqrt{(x_{Q}-x_{P})^{2}+(y_{Q}-y_{P})^{2}}[/tex] (2)
If we know that [tex]P(x,y) = (-9, -2)[/tex] and [tex]Q(x,y) = (-2, -2)[/tex], then the length of the line segment PQ is:
[tex]l_{PQ} = \sqrt{[-2-(-9)]^{2}+[(-2)-(-2)]^{2}}[/tex]
[tex]l_{PQ} = 7[/tex]
And the coordinates of the midpoint are, respectively:
[tex]M(x,y) = \frac{1}{2}\cdot (-9, -2) + \frac{1}{2}\cdot (-2, -2)[/tex]
[tex]M(x,y) = \frac{1}{2}\cdot (-11, -4)[/tex]
[tex]M(x,y) = \left(-\frac{11}{2}, -2 \right)[/tex]
Lastly, the possible coordinates of vertex R are, respectively:
[tex]R(x,y) = \left( -\frac{11}{2},-2\pm 7\cdot \sin 60^{\circ} \right)[/tex]
[tex]R(x,y) = (-5.5, -2\pm 6.1)[/tex]

Answer:
D. That they are educating the young for citizenship is reason for scrupulous protection of Constitutional freedoms of the individual. if we are not to strangle the free mind at its source and teach youth to discount important principles of our government as mere platitudes
Explanation:

Jasmine hoped to get 100 pumpkins from her garden this year. Since the weather was favorable,20% more pumpkins grew than she expected. Unfortunately, animals ate 30% of all the pumpkins that grew. How many pumpkins were left? Is the final number of pumpkins more than or less than she hoped
Number of pumpkin expected = 100
Extra pumpkin due to favourable weather
= 20% of 100
= (20/100) × 100
= 20
So, new number of pumpkin = 100 + 20 = 120
Pumpkin eaten by animals
= 30% of 120
= (30/100) × 120
= 36
So, final number of pumpkin = 120 - 36 = 84
Final number of pumpkins is less than she expected.

There are various factors of gender segregation, such as roles or behavior, which a gender can either be looked down upon for. One example is cooking. Assuming a woman doesn't know how to cook has become the social, and cultural norm in society, something that women and girls must know how to do, as if a responsibility. However, men are denied leave to take care of children sometimes, something that women are granted without hesitation, and that men must always be dominant, while females cook, clean, etc. If a man looks after the children, you may think, "wow, what a responsible father" although it is a human's utter responsibility to look after one's own children, regardless of gender expectations and norms. Depending on gender, there are also masculine and feminine characteristics attributed to women and men, such as men "cannot cry" and women are said to be more "sensitive" although the roles may be reversed, very few recognize that.
For every 100 boys who go to school, only 55 females do, and this continues for the fact that women must be married immediately, not having the opportunity to pursue a career, their hobbies, a degree, or their passions. Men are thereby employed, while females raise girls behind curtains, and at 18, seeing them as a burden, marry them off. How come when the female in the home is taking care of practically everything, and the male is expected to earn, there is still a system of dowry, that the male must "take care of her" and that too be paid for it! Gender discrimination still exists and the community and world must do its best to get rid of the harmful stereotypes.
Hope this helps!

But here I want to pretend she's a grown-up. I want to tell her exactly what happened, or what I remember happening, and then I want to say to her that as a little girl she was absolutely right. This is why I keep writing war stories.
Symptoms
by John Steinbeck (excerpt)
During the years between the last war and this one, I was always puzzled by the reticence of ex-soldiers about their experiences in battle. If they had been reticent men it would have been different, but some of them were talkers and some were even boasters. They would discuss their experiences right up to the time of battle and then suddenly they wouldn't talk anymore. This was considered heroic in them. It was thought that they had seen or done was so horrible that they didn't want to bring it back to haunt them or their listeners. But many of these men had no such consideration in any other field.
Only recently have I found what seems to be a reasonable explanation, and the answer is simple. They did not and do not remember--and the worse the battle was, the less they remember.
Read the excerpts, paying special attention to the underlined sections. How does the theme differ in the two excerpts?
1 While "Ambush" deals with a soldier struggling to come to terms with his experiences, "Symptoms" deals with soldiers who have become so apathetic that they no longer try to understand their experiences.
2 "Ambush" talks of a soldier who can’t share his feelings with his daughter but hopes to someday, while "Symptoms" deals with soldiers who have lost all memories of the worst experiences of war.
3 "Ambush" deals with a soldier who is afraid of forgetting the war and who deals with his fear by writing down the stories, while "Symptoms" deals with soldiers who deliberately suppress all their painful memories of the war experience.
4 In "Ambush," the narrator works out his negative emotions about the war by confiding in his loved ones; in "Symptoms," the soldiers are unable to work out their negative emotions because they have completely forgotten their experiences.
Answer:
Your answer is option 2 which is "Ambush" talks of a soldier who can’t share his feelings with his daughter but hopes to someday, while "Symptoms" deals with soldiers who have lost all memories of the worst experiences of war.
The evidence for my answer can be found in the following parts:
"Ambush" - Someday, I hope, she'll ask again.
(This is where the soldier hopes his daughter asks him about his war experiences later)
"Symptoms" - They did not and do not remember--and the worse the battle was, the less they remember.
(This shows that the soldiers have lost all memories of the worst experiences of war)
