Why:
Lowers reading comprehension level (most things in life require reading: restaurant menu, math problems, job/college applications, etc)
Limits imagination (when reading, authors use a lot of imagery, and without being exposed to this, those children will not have much experience picturing those things in their mind)
Slows and even limits their language development (reading aloud is very important as it demonstrates the ability to multitask and directly reflects your comprehension skills -> ex: that one kid in class who struggles to read aloud, they stutter a lot and cant pronounce difficult words)
