A newborn's eyes are highly immature. Their vision grows gradually over the years and more so in the first year. At first glance it seems like babies are cross-eyed, but they simply do not have the right amount of coordination. Babies are born with the ability to focus only at close range—8 to 10 inches or the distance between a mother's face to the baby in her arms. They have a vision of 20/200 the first few weeks after birth. It then steadily grows towards 20/20 (normal adult vision) by the age of two to three. Newborn babies cannot see all colors, but they can tell the difference between light and dark. This is why toy retailers make bright colored mobiles, flashcards, rattles, and other toys. Choose the sentence that best summarizes the above passage. A. The distance between the mother and a baby in her arms is between eight to ten inches. This is one of the reasons why a baby is easily able to recognize its mother. B. Newborn babies can only see very large patterns. Toy makers today understand this and make bright colored mobiles, flashcards, rattles, and other toys that only have bright colors. C. Since a newborn's vision is not fully developed, he or she is unable to see many things. This is why babies appear cross-eyed. A baby develops a 20/20 vision only by three years of age. D. Newborn babies cannot see much in the first few weeks. They attain a 20/20 vision only by the age of three. Toy makers today understand this and cater to patterns that are discernable by babies.

Between him and Darcy . . . . B. "With your good sense, . . . . C. "Oh! you are a great deal too apt, . . . . D. "He is also handsome,".

"He is also handsome," replied Elizabeth; "which a young man ought likewise to be, if he possibly can. His character is thereby complete."

Answers

After reading the passages from "Pride and Prejudice" and analyzing the societal expectations conveyed in them, we can select the following as the one supporting the theme that society bestows respectability for silly reasons:

D. "He is also handsome," replied Elizabeth; "which a young man ought likewise to be, if he possibly can. His character is thereby complete."

Societal expectations in "Pride and Prejudice"

After meeting Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy for the first time, the sisters Elizabeth and Jane discuss their characters. Elizabeth mentions that Mr. Bingley is also a handsome man, which makes his character "complete".

With such a sarcastic line, Elizabeth mocks how society bestows respectability for silly reasons. Beauty does not determine character at all, but she knows people are quick to think well of someone if that person looks beautiful.

With this in mind, we can select letter D as the best option.

Avarice is a word used to describe the statement about greed and acquisitiveness. The word suggests that money does not entice Zora as she doesn't feel any desire to gain more. Thus, options B and D are correct.

What is avarice?

Avarice is a material gain or extreme greed for the money that a person desires. The sentence about Zora being not concerned with what she can purchase from money does not show the correct word usage.

The word is correctly used in the second and fourth sentences as greed and desire are used to show her attitude and want for money. It shows that she is not greedy to have money and uses the word avarice correctly.

Therefore, avarice is used to depict greediness.

One reason people should not own exotic animals as pets is that it can be cruel to the animal.

Sadly "many exotic pet owners end up being unable to provide proper living environments for fully grown pets" (Lewis 68-70).

This is cruel because not having a suitable habitat for the pet's innate needs can negatively impact its social and mental state. If an animal is unable to live as it would in its natural habitat, it might suffer emotionally or physically as a result.

Though the possibility of inflicting harm on an animal should be reason enough, there are dangers associated with exotic pet ownership as well.

Hours ago, I had left Earth. Possibly for the last time, considering how insane this company can get. I don't even work for NASA! I don't know how they even got access to a huge rocket! Anyways, I'm stuck writing in this little notebook. I bet, if I had access to decent recording equipment this would be a great podcast. There's a tiny window across the room, and I've looked out of it a multitude of times. There's not really much there, considering we're not near any planets. It's just....well, space. A void. Probably what death looks and feels like. Dying sounds scary, but being dead sounds like there's nothing to it.

I was able to bring a little music player with me, but I only have Heaven Is A Place On Earth. How ironic. I must have listened to it this entire time, considering the fact it's still playing. Gravity is absolutely insane here too, and I expected it to be like that, but not nearly to this extent. As soon as this rocket hit space, my spine just elongated. Like when you pick up a cat by it's arms and it looks funny. That's exactly how I feel. I bet I was sent up here to write about the actual experience, like how bad space "coffee" is, the quotations are there because this is not coffee. It's more like, powdered concrete.  Well, now you know that fun fact.

God, I'm tired. Today has been insane. Mostly "gotta get out, gotta move", but now that I'm here it's just serenity. From calamity to calm. I think my dreams would be more interesting, though. Once I take a nap, I can officially say I've slept in space. Although, I have a feeling I'd be able to say that even if I didn't take a nap. I'm not sure how long I'm supposed to be here, but I think it's at least a few months? I'm on the road to this small planet everyone thought was just space debris. Check out space aliens, y'know. I think aliens exist. There's no way they don't. I mean, isn't it a little selfish to think, out of the millions of galaxies and suns and planets, that we're the only life? That's insane! I bet aliens are smarter than us. Probably. Hopefully not "take over the world for evil purposes" smarter, but "here; this is how we do things" smarter. A very small difference, but very important nonetheless.

Anyways, I'm gonna sleep for...until I wake up. I'll keep writing in this, but only because I'm getting good pay for it. Goodnight, dear readers. Or future historians. That'd be neat.
