6. A landscaping company is trying to create a formula to predict the amount of time, t, required to mow a yard based on the area of the yard, A, the speed of the mower, v, and the width of the mower, w. One employee suggests a formula of t = 1.15 * A/(vw) Does this formula make sense? Explain .

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

The formula makes sense

Step-by-step explanation:

For illustration purposes, we will assume the yard is a rectangle ( such assumption does not in any way invalid the arguments that follows

Dimensions of the yard

L = 10 m

w = 4 m

A = 40 m²

Arguments:

1.- The required time (t)  is proportional to the area (A). That means ( keeping all parameters fixed but Area ) we need more time to mow a bigger area yard. Then  t ∝ A

You can see that if the yard is 40 m²  you will take let´s say 0,5 day and you will need more time if the area is 100 m² ( it seems obvious )

2.- Let´s now assume the width of the mower is 1 m if you move along the length you will need to go forward and backward  4 times. Now think about a mower of 4 m ( it does not matter if that machine exists or no, is just a mental experiment) in that case you only need one pass, then the required time is inversely proportional to the width of the mower. That means a bigger width of the mower minor required time. Then t ∝ 1/w

3.-If now we keep the width of the mower but increased the speed of the machine we will reduce the working time. Time is an inversely proportional function of the speed of the machine since each required pass will take less time. Then  t ∝ 1/v

We have evaluated three parameters A, w, and v ( area, the width of the mower,  and speed ) and demonstrated the way each of these parameters influences the time, so far we don´t know how much each of them contributes  in the total output, for that we have to measure and get conclusions, Furthermore coefficient 1,15 (in formula seems to take into account the hole combinations of the factors)

Sheldon wants to feed his strawberry plants 2 more times and his tomato plants one more time he will use the Same amount of plant food as before how much plant food will he need

Answers

Answer:

3 7/12 kg

He doesn't have enough plant to feed strawberry 2 more times and tomato 1 more time

Step-by-step explanation:

On sunday , sheldon bought 4 1/2 kg of plant food. He uses 1 2/3 kg on his strawberry plants and used 1/4 kg for his tomato plants. b. Sheldon wants to feed his strawberry plants 2 more times and his tomato plants one more time. He will use the same amounts of plant food as before. How much plant food will be need? Does he have enough left to do so.

Total plant bought = 4 1/2 kg

Strawberry = 1 2/3 kg

Tomato = 1/4 kg

Strawberry + tomato

= 1 2/3 + 1/4

= 5/3 + 1/4

= 20+3/12

= 23/12 kg

Total remaining after Sunday

= Total - used

= 4 1/2 - 23/12

= 9/2 - 23/12

= 54-23/12

= 31/12

= 2 7/12 kg

Sheldon wants to feed his strawberry plants 2 more times and his tomato plants one more time.

Strawberry = 2 × 1 2/3

= 2 × 5/3

= 10/3 kg

Tomato = 1 × 1/4

= 1/4 kg

Total plant needed to feed strawberry two more times and tomato 1 more time

= 10/3 kg + 1/4 kg

= 40+3/12

= 43/12 kg

= 3 7/12 kg

He will need 3 7/12 kg of plant

He doesn't have enough plant to feed strawberry 2 more times and tomato 1 more time

The cube of a number is less than five times the square of the number. For what set of numbers is this true?
(-0,5)
(5.00)
(-0.0) U (0.5)

Answers

Answer:

[tex](-\infty,0)\cup (0,5)[/tex].

Step-by-step explanation:

Note: In the given options it should be negative infinity instead of -0 because -0 does not make any sense.

It is given that cube of a number is less than five times the square of the number.

Let the unknown number be x.

[tex]x^3<5x^2[/tex]

[tex]x^3-5x^2<0[/tex]

[tex]x^2(x-5)<0[/tex]

This is possible when both factors [tex]x^2\text{ and }(x-5)[/tex] have different sign.

We know that [tex]x^2[/tex] is always greater than or equal to 0. So,

[tex]x-5<0[/tex]

[tex]x<5[/tex]

[tex]x\in (-\infty,0)\cup (0,5)[/tex]

Because [tex]x^2(x-5)<0[/tex] is not true for x=0, so, 0 is not included in the solution set.

Therefore, the solution set is [tex](-\infty,0)\cup (0,5)[/tex].

What is the distance between each pair of points?

Answers

Answer:

The square root of 145.

Step-by-step explanation:

For this problem, make a right triangle between these two points. To solve for distance, use the Pythagorean formula. We know that one side is 8, and the other side is 9, so square 8 and 9 to get 64 plus 81. When you add these together, you get the square root of 145. You cannot further simplify the square root of 145, so that is the distance between the pair of points.

Answer:

For any two points there is exactly one line segment connecting them. The distance between two points is the length of the line segment connecting them. Note that the distance between two points is always positive. Segments that have equal length are called congruent segments.

Sanji has a square room with a perimeter of 42.5 feet. If she wants to hang a curtain along one full side of the room, how long does the curtain need to be?

Answers

Answer:

The length of the curtain is 10.625 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

The length of the curtain to cover one side of the room depends on the shape of the room

Given a room shape of a square, we have;

Perimeter = 4 × Side length of the room

Length of the curtain = Side length of the room

Therefore;

Perimeter = 4 × Length of the curtain

42.5 feet = 4 × Length of the curtain

Length of the curtain = (42.5 feet)/4 = 10.625 feet

The length of the curtain = 10.625 feet.
